How do we get to Shady Rest Resort

One of the best reasons for choosing Shady Rest Resort is the great location. You don't have to travel a extra 2 or 3 hours to enjoy a great vacation "Up at the Lake"

Shady Rest Resort is located in the west central part of Minnesota just southwest of Alexandria between Sauk Centre and Glenwood. We know that packing up the car or truck and getting the kids ready for a vacation is hard enough without having to get lost on your way. Lets see if we can avoid that.

We're just 2 hours from the Twin Cities and so easy to get to from any direction!

From Minneapolis/Saint Paul: Take I-94 west to Sauk Centre, take a left and go south on Hwy. 71 for about 1/10 of a mile. JUST PAST THE TRUCK STOP, take a right on Hwy. 28 going west towards Glenwood for about 16 miles until you reach Shady Rest Resort entrance. Our entrance is about 1/2 mile past the Villard exit on Hwy 28. You will see our sign at the entrance. Our entrance to the Resort is right on Hwy 28. There is a long gravel road into the Resort.

From Alexandria: Take Highway 29 south to Co. Rd. 30. Take a left on Co. Rd. 30 (Lake Reno will be on your right) and follow the signs to Villard. If you miss the turn for Co. Rd. 30, Co. Rd. 28 will be another mile or so and you can take a left there. That will get you to Villard also. Take a right into Villard (CR 57), go thru Villard to State Hwy 28. Take a right on State Hwy 28 going west, our entrance is the next right hand turn on Hwy 28. You should see our sign. Due to construction on County Road 28, we are providing an alternate route from Alexandria. Take Highway 29 south to Douglas County Road 4 and take a left. The sign will say to Forada. Stay on County Road 4 until you reach a stop sign. A sign will say Villard to the right. This right hand turn will be on County road 17 and it will take you into Pope County. County road 17 will automatically turn into Pope County Road 27. You will stay on 27 until you reach a yield sign. Take a right there (Co. Rd 28) and a sign directing you to Villard is there also. A mile on Co. Rd 28 will take you to Villard and the construction. Take a left on Co. Rd. 57 and it will take you through Villard to a stop sign and State Highway 28. Take a right there and we are the first right hand turn.

It may sound confusing, but once you are on Co. Rd 4, there are signs taking you to Villard. Hope this helps. Construction should be done spring of 2008. (or...does it ever end!)
